My wife and I just returned from a trip to China. It was an incredible experience for us! We had been asking The Lord to allow us to go for several years and he finally provided for it to happen.
This summer I met an American who had lived there for years and knew the culture and language enough to guide us. He invited us to join him this (just passed) October. We sought The Lord and He provided incredibly for us to go!
We traveled to Beijing and Xi'An over a 12 day period. We spent most of our time meeting people in Xi'An, but got to do some sightseeing in Beijing as well thanks to a mother of one of our current students.
The purpose of our trip was to learn more about the environment and culture that a majority of our students here at Purdue are coming from and to learn more about the challenges that they are faced with when they come to the U.S. to study. Although we didn't learn everything there is to know, we feel we definitely added to our knowledge through this experience. We are still processing our experiences, but we thank The Lord for giving us this opportunity! We look forward to meeting new friends from China and other parts of the world and we hope to visit more countries in the future!
As the Director of ICM, my desire is to connect with the international students at Purdue University along with connecting them with American friends. This blog is some personal thoughts and stories from our experiences.
